President and chief executive officer of the Senator John Heinz History Center, Dr. Masich will share stories from the History Center's remarkable collection, on Tuesday, March 10 from 6-7:00 p.m.
Dr. Masich has been president and chief executive officer of the Senator John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh since 1998. The center is the largest history museum in Pennsylvania, accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution.
He serves as chair of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, the Commonwealth’s official history agency, overseeing archives, museums, and historic preservation efforts across the state. Masich’s lectures on subjects ranging from the Civil War to American Indians to “museum vampires” (how to suck the life and fun out of history museums) have entertained and educated audiences in the United States and abroad. In 2012, the Public Relations Society of America honored Masich with their Pittsburgh Communicator of the Year award. He is the author or co-author of several award-winning books: Cheyenne Dog Soldiers: A Ledgerbook of Coups and Combat (1997), Halfbreed: The Remarkable True Story of George Bent(2004), The Civil War in Arizona: The Story of the California Volunteers, 1861-1865 (2006), and Dan Rooney: My 75 Years with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the NFL (2007), a collaboration with Dan Rooney and David Halaas, was a New York Times bestseller.
