[ARCHIVED] Frozen Pipe ALERT

frozen pipes

With frigid temperatures expected in Cranberry Township, frozen pipes can happen quickly, and they can cause major damage if they burst. A few simple steps can make a big difference: keep your heat steady, let faucets drip, open cabinets under sinks, and make sure exposed pipes are insulated. If you’re heading out of town, don’t turn the heat off completely. Staying proactive now can save you from a very cold (and costly) repair later.

How to Prevent Frozen Pipes (Quick Tips)

  • Let faucets drip slightly to keep water moving during extreme cold

  • Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate

  • Keep your thermostat set to a consistent temperature, even overnight

  • Seal drafts around doors, windows, and where pipes enter the home

  • Insulate exposed pipes in basements, crawl spaces, garages, and exterior walls

  • Disconnect garden hoses and shut off outdoor water supply lines

  • If you’ll be away, don’t turn the heat off—set it no lower than 55°F
