[ARCHIVED] Fire Police bring additional level of safety

Fire Police Officers arrive at the scene of fire calls ready to assist with traffic, and sometime, crowd control -  to help ensure the safety of the volunteer firefighters working at a scene, as well as the general public. They also assist with locating and marking water hydrants, in advance fire trucks arriving on a scene. As sworn officers, they are trained and certified in Fire Police operations by both the county and state. Supervisors' chairman Dick Hadley administered the oath to Ryan Burgland and Bob McClure on March 29.

Ryan Burgland was part of a student committee to rename the Seneca Valley Middle School, after fallen veteran Sergeant First Class & Green Beret Ryan Allen Gloyer. He plans to remain active in volunteering, with his youth group, Troop D Camp cadet organization, or Hosanna Industries. He will attend IUP in the fall to major in criminology, and participate in the Army ROTC, and with the Indiana Fire Department live-in program. After college, he hopes to make the Army his career as an Airborne Infantry Officer.

As a Ross Township resident and Pitt student, Bob McClure served as a volunteer firefighter and professional paramedic. He was instrumental in the creation of several local EMS organizations. His healthcare marketing and sales career allowed him to live throughout the U.S., but 25 years ago, he returned to Pittsburgh to settle in Cranberry Township with his family. Bob is an international manager for a medical informatics software company and also active in local ministry.
