Collaboration among neighboring municipalities doesn’t always happen in Western Pennsylvania. But for more than a year now, the Planning Directors of various North Hills communities have been working together to formulate a regional trail system. Their project, called the Commodore Perry Regional Trail, would involve creating new segments to link portions of existing trails including the North Country Trail and the Rachel Carson Trail, to eventually form a bicycle and pedestrian network traversing multiple jurisdictions and linking recreational amenities. And the participants are growing. Last month, the Borough of Bradford Woods joined with Cranberry, Pine, Marshall, Jackson, and Adams as part of the area’s Planners in Action group. At its November 2 meeting, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors heard a presentation updating the planning group’s efforts.
