[ARCHIVED] Don't fall for the utility worker scam

Burglars in Pittsburgh and elsewhere have pretended to be gas, electric, cable or water line workers to get into victims’ homes.  Except in cases of real emergency, Cranberry’s sewer and water field personnel will always call in advance of a home visit.  Our water meter contractor, Newman Plumbing, is required to contact you well ahead to schedule an exchange.  Be wary of surprise visits from anyone claiming to be a utility worker.  Look for the workers’ IDs, marked vehicles, and uniforms.  If you are still unsure, call their office or simply refuse to let them in.
