Thrifty Car Rental is living up to its name, at least for the time being, in Cranberry. On June 30, the Township’s Board of Supervisors gave a conditional use approval for the auto rental business to move its operations, from 20459 Rt. 19 next to Excel Centre, to a lower cost 1,700 square foot location at 20710 Rt. 19, next to the Elks Lodge, about a mile further north. However, its vehicles based at the new location, which is behind the Cranberry Messenger Service building, cannot be seen from the roadway. In the meantime, competitor Avis/Budget auto rental has moved into Thrifty’s former site. Thrifty, which touts its low-overhead operations, operates three franchise locations in the Pittsburgh area.
