Accommodations for residents and visitors who prefer getting around Cranberry by foot or bike are getting better every year. The Township’s network of sidewalks grew from just under 2 miles in 1977, to 45 miles in 1995, and about 160 miles today. Beyond that, they are much better connected, and offer a far more practical way of navigating the Township, than ever before, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors heard during an update at its April 2 meeting. A network of interconnected bicycle and pedestrian pathways throughout the Township had been visualized as part of Cranberry’s long-range comprehensive plan, adopted in 2009. Since that time, Cranberry has established 7.4 miles of bicycle paths and road-sharing routes in the Township. At the same time, however, gaps remain. A committee of Township department stakeholders has been formed to analyze the Township’s current assets and to prioritize the missing links. That information will be used in securing grants and in working with developers to hasten the completion of a comprehensive bike-pedestrian network.
