The structure of Cranberry’s police force, which operates under the Township’s Public Safety Department, was established 15 years ago. Since that time, its responsibilities have evolved. As a result, the police department’s structure was due for an update. To achieve that, an amended ordinance was advertised that retains the department’s current system of ranks but includes, among other changes, the position of Chief of Police – a job title which had been eliminated at the time the Public Safety Department was formed. In addition, the updated ordinance details procedures for reviewing probation, promotion, suspension, and removal of officers from the force. The Board will be asked to consider final action on the ordinance at its October 2 meeting. For more information, contact Public Safety Director Jeff Schueler at jeff.schueler@cranberrytownship.org.
