Cranberry has never had a fence ordinance, but as a result of a neighborhood dispute involving a six foot stockade fence that one of them installed along the property line all the way up to the sidewalk and along the driveway, that’s about to change. Because of the fence’s placement, which was outside of the public right of way, the Township had no administrative remedy for the disputed barrier, which blocked the neighbor’s view when they backed out of their driveway. In response, the Township’s Board will be asked to consider adopting an amendment to Cranberry’s zoning ordinance at its April 1 meeting that stipulates the height, placement, and transparency requirements of front yard fences. If enacted, permits would be required before such fences or walls could be constructed. A fee of $50 would be charged for reviewing plans. But it will come too late for the initial spat between neighbors; the one who erected the fence has moved out of town and their real estate agents quickly removed it.
